The Obama Czars List

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

O&E Editor’s Notes: 1. Fox News reported Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 that the White House (presumably President Obama himself or his staff ) objected to the use of Czar in reference to the below listed persons.  2. A special thank you goes out to American Daughter Media Center, and Michelle Malkin a Fox News contributor, for the use of their Czars List and other source information.

From American Daughter Media Center:  Obama has moved swiftly to concentrate power in the White House, bypassing the review of our elected representatives in Congress in most of the posts listed above. Even though cabinet positions are part of the executive branch, the cabinet secretaries must be approved by Congress, they are funded by Congress, and they can be called before Congress to testify. Most of these czars, on the other hand, are appointed by Obama at his sole discretion, and are answerable only to him. If subpoenaed by Congress, they can claim executive privilege.

Right after the election last November, Lowell Ponte of NewsMax published a tongue-in-cheek article that purported to be written eight years in the future, looking back on the Obama administration. Given the administration’s current initiatives, the ominous prognostication seems frighteningly likely:

Looking back from 2016 on eight strange years of President Barack Obama’s administration, we see that it has been nothing like what idealists believed they were electing in 2008.

The Obama years will be remembered in the Ministry of Truth’s official history as the era of 1,000 czars, the elitist commissars he gave the power to rule by fiat in every sector of America’s government, economy, and society…. And through their partisan power, Barack Obama became America’s permanent caesar.

Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling

Too bad it’s not in U.S. waters.

The Wall Street Journal-Opinion Page
Aug. 18, 2009

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan. (more…)

U S Tax Dollars Hard at Work in Brazil

Today’s Wall Street Journal contains some puzzling news for all Americans who are impacted by high energy prices and who share the goal of moving us toward energy independence.

For years, states rich with an abundance of oil and natural gas have been begging Washington, DC politicians for the right to develop their own natural resources on federal lands and off shore. Such development would mean good paying jobs here in the United States (with health benefits) and the resulting royalties and taxes would provide money for federal coffers that would potentially off-set the need for higher income taxes, reduce the federal debt and deficits, or even help fund a trillion dollar health care plan if one were so inclined to support such a plan. A Fresh Call for Debate

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

As we continue to see sensationalized images of ranting citizens in various Town Hall meetings on the evening news, one might ask what the cause of this outrage is.  There are many reasons for and from which Town Hall participants draw strength to challenge their Congress men and women.  Among the many reasons is fear of change of any kind, a misunderstanding of the facts, or they are downright misinformed acting on out-and-out lies about the issue, or more probable—Town Haller’s might have a gut feeling that there is something just plain wrong about the issue and the information that they receive from the media and government representatives.  Combine strong suspicions with real fear and what you often times get is wild-eyed outrageous conduct by people who are otherwise collected intellectually and personally.    It would be nice if we could all live in a Pollyanna world—or even better, Lake Woebegone!  In addition to all the other attributes of Lake Woebegone, all of our politicians, judges, appointed officials, and bureaucrats would be totally honest, morally upstanding, and perhaps even transparent in motive; none would have hidden agendas and certainly no conspiratorial thoughts to over throw the U. S. Constitution, or to destroy the very foundations and traditions of our nation as some Town Haller’s suggest.   But, history from Genghis Khan and before to the present day tells us clearly that such a world is not reality; human nature is what it is, and that there have always been those who would challenge and to challenge by force if necessary for our own good to redirect a nation and reshape it in their own image at the expense of thousands, e.g. Russia, 1917; Germany, 1933; Iran, present day!  What we witness is a continuous, ongoing conflict of world views!

I might add here that some people in the media who laugh at or become indignant over the ideas of others who raise images of our collective history in the form of Hitler or Stalin suggest that we here in the United States of America are somehow immune to such extremism and further that those in positions of power and authority here (or they in the media themselves) are somehow intellectually superior to and therefore incapable of such extremism as these an other historical personalities exemplify.   To so smugly dismiss these historical images is naïve at best as educated citizens of world history and persons of some responsibility, or supremely arrogant; either is reprehensible!    (more…)

Czar 54, Who Are You?

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY
Monday, July 20, 2009 4:20 PM PT

Leadership: Our new science czar, John Holdren, once backed compulsory sterilization and forced abortion as part of a government population-control program. The only thing missing was a Soylent Green recipe.

In April, President Obama declared that “the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over.” In everything from stem cell research to climate change and energy policy, reason and science would triumph. The problem is that what the Obama administration considers science, as exemplified by the choice of Holdren, is troubling. (more…)

Town Hall Meetings

When is a Town Hall not a Town Hall?

There is much in the “news” of late about town hall meetings and the wracking-over -the-coals that many of our representative congress men and women are taking.   (Perhaps our trusted congress men and women would be advised to conduct such meeting on a more regular bases should they truly be interested in the opinions of those they claim to represent.  The anger level they encounter might well be much less!)  True Town Hall Meetings are just what we see in the “news” with the exception that the in-your-face, finger wagging, or fist waving confrontations are not representative of the general character of most Town Hall Meetings—at least not in my personal experience.  Shouting, yes!  Heated discussion, yes!  Passionate exchanges, yes!  But Town Hall Meetings can also be rather boring at times and frequently uneventful.   But, since the “news” is not usually anything less than the sensational most prime time TV news editors and newspaper front page boards would not find such Town Hall Meetings with well behaved citizen very interesting, and more to the point—in keeping with the picture of “reality” that they want to present that supports their internal editorial positions or support of one political party or another, or a political position on an issue of their choice. White House Says Girl With Campaign Ties Chosen at ‘Random’ to Speak at Obama Town Hall

Wednesday, August 12, 2009
FoxNews.com

Facing a barrage of questions Wednesday over the friendliness of the audience at President Obama’s New Hampshire town hall meeting, the White House insisted that all questions were selected at random — including one from an 11-year-old girl whose mother worked as an Obama organizer.

Julia Hall of Malden, Mass., grabbed the microphone Tuesday during Obama’s town hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., and told the president she saw signs “outside saying mean things about reforming health care” as she walked into the building. (more…)

Canada’s Health System Informs U.S. Health Care Debate

By Wendell Goler

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

When it comes to the health care reform debate, Canada’s single-payer system often is held up as an example of success by supporters — and by opponents as a warning of the pitfalls.

Answering questions at the Summit of the Americas on Monday, President Obama seemed ambivalent about Canadian health care.

“I don’t find Canadians particularly scary, but I guess some of the opponents of reform think that they make a good bogeyman,” he said.

Obama went on to say the Canadian system wouldn’t work in the U.S., but many American doctors believe it does some things better. (more…)
